SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Upstate Out of the Darkness walk brought suicide prevention supporters to Cleveland Park in Spartanburg on Sunday afternoon.

Organizers scheduled check-in at 1 p.m. and the walk at 2 p.m. at 141 N. Cleveland Park Drive. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention style events run about 1 to 3 miles and are noncompetitive, aimed at building a supportive community around hope, healing and awareness.

Coverage ahead of the event said Upstate and Greenville walks are being led by local organizers who have lost children to suicide and are raising money and visibility for prevention work across South Carolina.

A separate AFSP campus walk partnership lists USC Upstate at 365 Hodge Drive in Spartanburg as one of two simultaneous campus sites with the USC School of Medicine Greenville, underscoring how many local groups are pushing the same message this fall.

Anyone in crisis can dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or text TALK to 741-741 for the Crisis Text Line.
