DUNCAN, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged a 19-year-old Spartanburg County man with lottery fraud after he scratched and redeemed tickets at the Circle K where he worked in Duncan.

Joseph Antoniyo Waller was charged Thursday, Oct. 8, with intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets, SLED said. Spartanburg County court records also list a charge of breach of trust with fraudulent intent with a value of 2,000 dollars or less.

Surveillance cameras recorded the activity, and Circle K management identified him to investigators.

The South Carolina Education Lottery requested the SLED investigation. Waller was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center, and the case will be prosecuted by the 7th Circuit Solicitor Office.

Surety bonds totaling 22,000 dollars were posted the same day he was arrested. Court records show return dates of Nov. 9 on the breach of trust charge and Dec. 17 on the lottery fraud charge.

If convicted on the felony intent to defraud counterfeit games charge, Waller faces up to five years in prison and a 50,000 dollar fine under South Carolina law.
