# Spartanburg Fashion Week Rolls Out a Hollywood Runway

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg Fashion Week opens its fourth year Thursday with a film theme, running Oct. 15 through Oct. 18 across several downtown venues.

Founder and executive director Contessa Thompson built the week as a showcase for designers, models, stylists, photographers and other creative workers. It starts with a digital premiere called Opening Credits, streamed live on Instagram and YouTube.

The Director’s Cut follows at the Spartanburg Art Museum from 7 to 10 p.m., where three designers will use fashion installations to interpret Black cinema.

The centerpiece runway lands Saturday in The Hall on the lower level of Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. A matinee show starts at 2:30 p.m., and the main evening show, hosted by Morgan Norris, runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Organizers have set a dress code of Hollywood Glam / Fashion Forward and are promising red carpet arrivals and photography, VIP experiences and vendor booths.

The evening will also honor Spartanburg native Kitty Black Perkins, who created the first Black Barbie doll for Mattel. The Beyond the Seams Foundation is presenting the closing awards ceremony, The Reelys, which starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Oxford at 1881 Events.
