SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Wofford spotted VMI an 11-point lead in the opening quarter Saturday, then answered with 38 points in a row to win 41-14 on Homecoming at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg.

The Keydets went up 14-3 before the first quarter ended, helped by a fumble return for a score and a long run up the middle. From there the Terriers took over. Running back Gerald Modest Jr. carried 20 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns, including a 65-yard burst in the third quarter, the longest Wofford run in years.

Quarterback J.T. Fayard completed 16 of 21 throws for 270 yards and two scores. Two receivers topped 100 yards for the first time in their careers: Ivory Aikens had 105 and Anjuan Coleman Jr. had 104, each with a touchdown catch.

Wofford piled up a season-high 514 yards and limited VMI to 188. Logan McCloud made seven tackles to lead the defense, which logged eight tackles for loss.

The win moves Wofford to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Conference, while VMI is still winless at 0-7. The Terriers now lead the all-time series 17-13. After an open week, Wofford plays two road games and returns home Nov. 14 against East Tennessee State.
