SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A woman faces insurance fraud and forgery charges after state agents say she sought payment for crash injuries that never happened, using doctored paperwork filed in Spartanburg County.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Trevon Rena Dawson, 49, on Friday, Oct. 16. The counts are presenting a false claim for insurance payment valued between $2,000 and $10,000, forgery under $10,000 and forgery with no dollar amount involved.

Agents opened the case at the request of the South Carolina Department of Insurance, which will also prosecute it.

According to warrants, on July 15, 2025, Dawson filed accident and hospital confinement claims for another person, saying that person had been hurt in a wreck and hospitalized. She backed the claim with an altered medical summary and an altered FR-10 collision report, the warrants say.

The insurer paid out on the hospital portion and turned down the accident claim, according to the warrants. Warrants also say Dawson admitted in a recorded statement that the claim was false.

She was taken to the county jail in Spartanburg after the charges were filed.
