SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg is in for a stretch of dry, sunny fall weather this week, with afternoons in the 70s and crisp nights in the 40s and low 50s, according to the National Weather Service office in Greer.

Monday should be sunny with a high near 71, and Monday night drops to around 44 under mostly clear skies with little wind. Tuesday warms a bit more, with sunshine and a high near 74.

Forecasters said a broad area of high pressure parked over the Southeast will keep the region dry through at least Friday. A slightly cooler push of air on Tuesday may trim Wednesday temperatures, with Wednesday forecast to top out near 71 before a mostly cloudy night with a low near 51.

Readings then climb above normal late in the week. Thursday is expected to reach about 74, and Friday looks like the warmest day of the stretch, sunny with a high near 77.

The pattern changes this weekend. The weather service said another backdoor cold front should arrive, raising the odds of showers. Saturday night carries a 30 percent chance of rain, rising to 40 percent on Sunday, with a high near 73.

Farther north, the agency kept a frost advisory in place early Monday for parts of the North Carolina mountains, but no frost was expected in Spartanburg County.
