Spartanburg, South Carolina – An informal survey conducted in Spartanburg has crowned Ike’s Korner Grill as the best burger joint in the area, according to the feedback of 41 local participants. The beloved family-owned restaurant received 16 votes, taking the lead over other burger establishments in the community.
This informal survey aligns with the findings from the larger-scale Readers’ Choice survey published by The Post and Courier Spartanburg, which also indicated a strong local preference for Ike’s Korner Grill. Respondents of the survey commended the restaurant for its focus on straightforward, high-quality burger preparation without unnecessary “hipster nonsense.” In particular, the fries served at Ike’s have been regarded as “the best in town,” showcasing the restaurant’s reputation for excellence.
Neil Rodgers, the owner of Ike’s Korner Grill, has proudly noted that the establishment has been a part of the community for 66 years, operating through four generations of his family. The restaurant serves a staggering approximately 1,000 pounds of hamburger meat each week, highlighting its busy operations and popularity among locals.
Among the most popular menu items are the Terrier Burger, topped with pimento cheese, and the bacon cheeseburger, both of which can be prepared as doubles or triples to satisfy larger appetites. The restaurant also offers a formidable “challenge burger,” featuring four patties accompanied by bologna, cheese, eggs, and bacon, along with a side of fries and onion rings. The challenge requires participants to consume the entire burger and half of the sides within 45 minutes; only 19 challengers have succeeded out of more than 1,000 attempts over the span of 12 years.
In the recent survey, Cribbs Kitchen and Burgers & Bakery emerged as the runner-ups, each receiving acclaim for their unique offerings. Cribbs Kitchen is recognized as a downtown staple, while Burgers & Bakery, located off U.S. Highway 29 west of Spartanburg, is known for its gigantic burgers piled high with generous toppings.
Other noteworthy restaurants mentioned in the survey include The Beacon Drive-In, Fr8yard, Chef Ae’s, and Wayback, reflecting a diverse and robust dining scene in the Spartanburg area. The enthusiasm for local dining preferences during the current Spartanburgers’ season has engaged community members in sharing their opinions and favorites, further cementing the vital role of these establishments in local culture.
The informal survey was reported by Marga-Rita Van Der Linde, an international student from Cape Town, South Africa, who is currently studying at Wofford College.
