[Spartanburgers](/sports-spartanburg-sc/) catcher Malcolm Moore gave the club its first weekly league honor of the season on Monday when the South Atlantic League named him Player of the Week. The award covered games from May 12 through May 17, a stretch in which Moore anchored an explosive road trip in Asheville and helped turn a strong offensive series into a league-wide recognition moment, according to the team recap.

The numbers were substantial. Moore produced 13 hits and 29 total bases in five games, while scoring eight runs and driving in 10, according to the club recap. The team also said he carried a streak of multiple-hit games to seven straight and hit four home runs during the Asheville series, including his first professional grand slam. For a young High-A club, that is the kind of production that changes both lineups and series outcomes. Moore was not simply collecting empty stats. He was one of the main reasons the Spartanburgers overwhelmed Asheville’s pitching for most of the week.

The team framed the award in a broader context as well. Moore became the first Spartanburgers player to earn weekly honors in 2026, an important marker for a franchise still building its local identity at Fifth Third Park. The team-news page also placed the award alongside a burst of recent results, including the 19-12 series-finale win in Asheville and the six-game run in which the Spartanburgers piled up 77 runs. Moore’s award was therefore both an individual honor and a shorthand for how dangerous the lineup looked across the full road swing.

Now the setting changes back to Spartanburg. The club returns home Tuesday to open a series against Rome, giving local fans an immediate chance to see the league’s latest weekly honoree in person. For a first-year market still introducing players to the city, that kind of timing helps. Moore’s bat created the headline on the road, and now the award follows him back to Fifth Third Park.
