# HEAR HERE: Spartanburg Water Issues Moderate Drought Proclamation for Landrum Service Area

The Commissioners of Public Works of the City of Spartanburg issued a drought proclamation on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, covering the Spartanburg Water System Landrum Service Area. Stream flows supplying the Landrum Water Treatment Facility have dropped to levels indicating moderate drought conditions, the proclamation states. The restrictions took effect at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The proclamation lists voluntary outdoor irrigation restrictions. All Landrum customers are limited to watering between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM to reduce evaporation losses. On top of that nighttime-only window, the proclamation splits customers by address: those whose street addresses end in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 or the letters A through M may water outdoors only on Thursdays and Sundays; those ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or letters N through Z are limited to Wednesdays and Saturdays. The proclamation also calls on customers to avoid hosing down driveways and sidewalks, reduce vehicle and boat washing, refrain from running decorative fountains, and cut golf course and grounds irrigation. All restrictions remain voluntary at this moderate drought stage.

The proclamation comes amid a significant regional dry spell. Federal drought monitoring data shows 99.34 percent of South Carolina was in drought as of mid-April 2026 — the largest area of drought recorded in the Southeast since the U.S. Drought Monitor was established in 2000. Streamflows across much of the state were running well below normal heading into spring, compounding the impact at facilities like the Landrum Water Treatment Facility that draw directly from local surface water sources. The commission stated it will continue to monitor water use in the Landrum Service Area and provide updates as conditions evolve.

The City of Landrum posted notice of the proclamation on its official channels on April 29, urging customers in the service area to follow the voluntary schedule and conserve wherever possible. Customers with questions may reach the Spartanburg Water Customer Experience team toll-free at (877) 797-7773, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
