Frosty Forecast: Upstate Schools Shift to eLearning and Delay Openings

Bundle Up! Cold Weather Heading Our Way
Get ready to bundle up, folks! Tuesday night is slated to bring the coldest temperatures of the week, dipping into the teens and even single digits in some areas, especially toward the mountains. The National Weather Service is keeping a close eye on conditions, expecting the cold to linger until Wednesday before we see some relief with warmer temperatures on Thursday.
On Wednesday, you can expect a sunny day with a high near 34 degrees and a gentle northeast breeze blowing at around six mph. However, prepare for a very chilly night, with temperatures dropping to about 17 degrees as clouds start to roll in. Sounds like hot cocoa weather!

Greenville County Schools Opt for eLearning Day
Now let’s talk about some of our neighbors! Greenville County Schools have decided on an eLearning day for Wednesday, meaning schools and offices will be closed and all activities—including athletic events and field trips—are canceled. Thanks to being an approved eLearning district, students will utilize Google Classroom to continue their education from home, but there is flexibility provided for any barriers that might arise, like power outages or internet issues.
Other Districts Joining the eLearning Wave
Anderson schools (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5) are also transitioning to eLearning on Wednesday, ensuring students stay safe and warm. Schools in Spartanburg County (Districts 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7) will follow suit, opting for the eLearning format due to hazardous conditions. Spartanburg District 7 has reported a bone-chilling wind chill of -7 degrees alongside potential snowfall. Time to stay indoors!
On the other hand, Spartanburg District 2 has determined they will operate on a regular schedule after assessing road conditions. Meanwhile, District 1 is keeping a watchful eye on the weather, ready to provide updates as necessary.
Programs Adjust for the Weather
Moreover, SMC will also transition to eLearning and remote work on Wednesday. Essential staff will be notified accordingly. All Charles Lea Center day and employment programs will be closed due to the unfavorable weather conditions. Want to know something uplifting? Extended day programs in various districts will wrap up at their usual times!
