Wofford College basketball standout Nils Machowski has committed to the University of Connecticut, capping a breakout season in Spartanburg and marking his third program in four collegiate years.

Machowski’s transfer follows one of the most productive individual seasons in recent Wofford basketball history. The 6-foot-3 guard from Berlin, Germany, started all 32 games for the Terriers in 2025-26, averaging 17.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 33.7 minutes. He finished the year with 551 points, accounting for 21.8 percent of the program’s total scoring output and earning All-Southern Conference Second Team honors.

Before arriving in Spartanburg, Machowski spent two seasons at the University of Central Florida, appearing in 56 games and averaging 2.9 points per contest. The contrast with his Wofford production was stark: at Spartanburg he shot 43.3 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three-point range, while hitting 79 percent of his free throws. He recorded five double-doubles and scored 30 or more points three times.

His most memorable stretch came in back-to-back road wins. He followed a 27-point performance at Western Carolina with a career-high 37-point outing at The Citadel, going 12-for-17 from the field and 8-for-11 from beyond the arc. Those performances earned him recognition as the first Wofford player in program history to win the Lou Henson National Player of the Week award from Collegeinsider.com.

At UConn, Machowski joins a Huskies roster built around returning guards Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins following a national runners-up season. The commitment helps address a backcourt depth need created when guard Solo Ball elected to use a medical redshirt. Machowski becomes the Huskies’ fourth transfer portal addition this offseason.

Wofford finished 2025-26 at 19-13 overall and 11-7 in the Southern Conference. Machowski also brought international credentials to Spartanburg, having played for Germany’s youth national team at the 2022 U18 and 2024 U20 European Championships and having won back-to-back U19 championships with Alba Berlin in 2022 and 2023.
