A recent incident at Boots and Sonny’s restaurant in Spartanburg on Monday afternoon saw an employee step in to break up a fight that erupted between two men. The confrontation, which was captured on video, began when one man bumped into another, leading to punches being thrown.
Hakeem LaPierre, an employee at the restaurant for two months, intervened after observing the altercation escalate and noticing injuries. LaPierre stated he saw a younger man attacking an older man and felt compelled to act when others in the lobby remained still. He described seeing the older man’s face cut and shirt torn before he separated the two without hesitation.
According to a Spartanburg Police Department report, one man recounted walking out of the restaurant when another stomped on his foot. After asking why, the other man began punching him. The victim then threw the aggressor over the counter, who subsequently started hitting a worker behind the counter. Other employees then joined in to stop the man.
Arrest warrants indicate that Gregory Tyricus Jacobs was charged with two counts of assault and battery in the third degree. Jacobs was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and received a $1,344.44 surety bond, according to jail officials. Authorities noted that Jacobs matched the description of a vandalism suspect who had previously thrown a large piece of concrete at a black Dodge on South Church Street. Staff at Boots and Sonny’s reportedly described Jacobs as a frequent source of problems.
