Spartanburg, South Carolina – Wofford College has announced the hiring of Kevin McGeehan as the new assistant coach for its men’s basketball program. This strategic addition aims to bolster the team’s competitiveness and leverage McGeehan’s extensive coaching experience.

McGeehan, a 1996 graduate of Gettysburg College, has a robust coaching background spanning nearly two decades. He previously spent 12 seasons as the head coach of the Campbell Camels, where he achieved significant milestones and developed a reputation for creating strong competitive teams. Under McGeehan’s leadership at Campbell, the Camels recorded winning seasons in six of his twelve years, finishing with an overall coaching record of 184-199 (.480).

During his tenure at Campbell, McGeehan guided the team to one regular season championship and multiple postseason appearances, including the NIT, CBI, and CIT tournaments. Notably, in the 2024-25 season, Campbell concluded with a 15-17 (10-8 CAA) record, securing a fifth-place finish in the Coastal Athletic Association. He notably coached Colby Duggan, a sophomore forward, to the All-CAA first team with impressive stats, averaging 15.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Furthermore, Anthony Dell’Orso earned recognition as second-team All-CAA, showcasing an impressive average of 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

McGeehan’s tenure at Campbell also saw the team narrowly miss out on a coveted NCAA tournament appearance in its last season in the Big South. From 2017 to 2023, the school secured 121 wins, averaging 17 wins per season—marking the most successful seven-year span in the program’s Division I history. During that time, the team captured four Big South titles, including a regular season championship in 2019. The most notable season under McGeehan’s helm occurred in 2018-19, when Campbell managed a 20-13 (12-4) record, with standout player Chris Clemons leading the team by averaging an astounding 30.1 points per game, ultimately setting numerous records with his career total of 3,225 points. McGeehan was recognized with the Big South Coach of the Year award in 2019 for his successful efforts.

Before his time at Campbell, McGeehan gained valuable experience as an assistant and associate head coach at the University of Richmond from 2005 to 2013. During his tenure, Richmond made two NCAA tournament appearances and participated in three CBI tournaments, highlighted by a Sweet 16 run in 2011.

McGeehan’s coaching journey began in the mid-1990s at Lansdale Catholic High School and has since included various coaching positions that have shaped his comprehensive skill set. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a dual master’s degree in secondary and higher education and counseling from West Chester University in 1999.

He is based in Spartanburg with his wife, Melissa, and their three children: two sons, Jack and Connor, and a daughter, Grace. The head coach of Wofford, Giltner, expressed enthusiasm about McGeehan’s addition to the program, specifically highlighting his experience, extensive knowledge, and alignment with Wofford’s core values of education, integrity, and unselfishness.
