James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan is one of the largest and most successful high school athletic programs in South Carolina.
Football Powerhouse
The Rebels have won multiple SCHSL 5A football state championships and maintain a powerhouse tradition that draws statewide attention on Friday nights. The football program is consistently ranked among the top programs in the state and has produced multiple college scholarship athletes.
Heritage
The school is named for James Francis Byrnes, a Spartanburg native who served as United States Secretary of State, Supreme Court Justice, and Governor of South Carolina. District 5 covers Duncan, Reidville, Wellford, and Moore, feeding through the Byrnes Freshman Academy and two middle schools.
