A Spartanburg woman faces a murder charge after calling 911 Tuesday morning to report that she had stabbed her live-in boyfriend multiple times at their Logan Street home, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.

Officers responded to 920 Logan Street just after 10:30 AM on April 14, 2026, and found Jose Vizcaya, 28, in a bedroom suffering from multiple stab wounds. Vizcaya died from his injuries at the scene. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified him as the victim and will conduct a forensic examination.

Renatta Flores-Sanchez was taken to SPD headquarters for questioning following the incident. Arrest warrants state that Flores-Sanchez stabbed Vizcaya with an apparent knife and strangled him with a cord. She was subsequently booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Major Art Littlejohn of the Spartanburg Police Department issued a statement following the arrest: “This is a tragic incident that has deeply impacted those involved and the surrounding community. Our officers and investigators responded quickly and are working diligently to ensure a thorough and complete investigation.”

The investigation remains active. SPD has not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the incident.
