Spence Hagood Achieves First Collegiate Win
Spence Hagood, a senior at Presbyterian College and a former Cambridge Academy standout, secured his first collegiate tournament victory at the River Run Collegiate individual title in Davidson, North Carolina. Hagood’s final round score of 72 was enough to win the title by three shots over the runners-up.
Hagood began the tournament on Monday with a 4-under 68, followed by a 2-under 70. He held a one-shot lead entering the final round. Presbyterian coach Thomas Addison informed Hagood he had a four-shot lead before his final hole.
On the same day, Presbyterian College also claimed its first regular-season team championship since 2013. The Blue Hose finished at 869, 5-over par, narrowly defeating host Davidson by one stroke in a 13-team field. This marks only the second regular-season tournament championship in Presbyterian’s Division I history, with the other occurring in 2013 at the Pirate Intercollegiate.
During his time at Cambridge Academy, Hagood contributed to the Cougars winning consecutive SCISA state championships and was twice recognized as the SCISA Region Player of the Year. As a junior, he won the 2022 SCISA state individual championship with a score of 4-under 140 over two rounds. Last season, Hagood helped the Blue Hose win the Big South Championship, leading to their first advancement to the NCAA Regionals in the program’s Division I era.
