Yes. South Carolina requires a freshwater fishing license for residents age 16 and older. Licenses can be purchased online at the SCDNR website, at license vendors statewide, or by calling 1-888-434-7472.
What is the best time of year to fish Lake Bowen?
Spring (MarchβMay) is prime for largemouth bass as they move shallow to spawn. Fall is excellent for topwater bass fishing. Crappie are active spring and fall near structure. Catfish bite well spring through summer.
Are there any stocked trout streams near Spartanburg?
The nearest SCDNR trout stocking occurs on the North Pacolet River and Tyger River during fall and winter months. Check the SCDNR stocking schedule at dnr.sc.gov for exact dates and locations.
