Cowpens, SC – Christine Mae Hussey Mills, a longtime resident of Cowpens, SC, passed away at the age of 73 on October 4, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Christine, known for her loving nature and hobbies, dedicated her life to her family and community.
Born in Northfield, MN, Christine was the daughter of La-Verne Hussey and Marlys Sweet Hussey, both of whom have predeceased her. She was married to Kenneth Wayne Mills, Sr., who died on November 8, 2009. With a career that included a significant tenure at Shoney’s Restaurant, Christine was well-respected in her field.
Christine is survived by her three children: son Kenneth Wayne Mills, Jr., and daughters Jeri Lavender, who is married to Kenneth Mullinax, and Stephanie Jean Noah, who is married to Michael. She also leaves behind two brothers, Curt Hussey, married to Sheryl, and Chuck Hussey, both of whom reside outside of South Carolina, as well as three sisters: Carol Wilson, married to Mark; Cathy Hussey-Berdahl; and Candy Hamilton, married to James. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Tabitha Lavender, Curstie Allison, Billy Buff, Jr., Mercedes Celestin, David Mullinax, and Haley Ridings, along with nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis G. Hussey, her sister, Cynthia Skube, and a great-grandson, Gabriel Allison. She was known for her love of family, “fur-babies,” gardening, crocheting, cross-stitch, puzzles, coin collecting, and reading, enriching the lives of those around her with her diverse interests.
A gathering for family and friends took place on October 8, 2025, at Blakely Funeral Home in Cowpens, SC, where the community came together to celebrate her life. The visitation was held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Greg Little and Mr. Ashby Blakely.
The family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association or the Cherokee County Humane Society in lieu of flowers as a way to honor Christine’s legacy along with her passion for caring and compassion towards animals. Friends and family invite those who wish to pay their respects to visit their home at 171 Foster Street in Cowpens, SC.
