Spartanburg – Spartanburg Community College (SCC) announced that 288 students have earned President’s List honors for the Fall 2025 semester, marking the inaugural recognition of this new program designed to highlight exemplary academic performance among its students. The President’s List was established at SCC in 2025, specifically aimed at celebrating academic excellence and enhancing student success across the institution.

To gain placement on the President’s List, students must achieve exceptional scholastic performance, demonstrating their commitment to academic rigor. This accolade reflects SCC’s dedication to fostering a learning environment that encourages student achievement. The college is optimistic about continuing its tradition of honoring student accomplishments in upcoming years.

In conjunction with SCC’s recognition, students from the local area were also honored by other institutions for their academic prowess. At Bob Jones University, over 590 students were recognized on the President’s List for Spring 2025, where students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to qualify. Among the Laurens County students earning this recognition were Alice Barron, a freshman majoring in Studio Art, and Natalie Witbeck, a sophomore majoring in Keyboard Performance.

Bob Jones University also named approximately 660 students to its Dean’s List for Spring 2025, acknowledging those who maintained a GPA ranging from 3.00 to 3.74. From Laurens, Jessalyn Padilla, a junior in Multimedia Journalism, made it onto the Dean’s List.

Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) also announced its own President’s List and Dean’s List recipients for Spring 2025. To qualify for SMC’s President’s List, students must achieve a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Among the honor roll students were Carson Glenn and Thomas Pineros, both from Laurens, and La’nayah Stewart, from Clinton. Additionally, local students Desi Cruz Garduno and Kimberly Sosa-Hernandez made SMC’s Dean’s List, which recognizes students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

In a related development, SCC has established an academic partnership with Winthrop University aimed at enhancing transition opportunities for students pursuing higher education. This collaboration is focused on four designated Meta-Majors, which are pathways developed to streamline the education process for students transitioning from associate to bachelor’s degree programs. The Meta-Majors include areas of Business & Management, Science & Health, Society & Politics, and Arts, Language & Communications.

The new partnership will provide students with personalized academic advising, early access to transfer tools, and a structured roadmap to facilitate degree completion. This initiative reflects SCC’s commitment to improving educational outcomes through collaboration. Winthrop University’s administration has expressed optimism regarding the potential benefits this partnership can offer to transfer students.

This inaugural recognition at SCC and the collaborative efforts with Winthrop University reinforce the importance of academic achievement and student support in the local educational landscape. The institutions are dedicated to ensuring that their students are well-prepared for future academic and professional endeavors, thereby enriching the community as a whole.
