This innovative approach allows students to engage in college-level courses and various activities while taking a reduced class load.

The new academic year has seen the traditional seven-period schedule condensed to just three classes per day, providing students with more extensive opportunities to participate in extracurricular pursuits, including sports and arts programs. Currently, Spartanburg High School serves over 2,100 students, just short of its maximum capacity of 2,500, marking a vibrant and active school environment. Notably, there are 625 freshmen enrolled, one of the largest incoming classes in recent years.

Principal Andrew McMillan indicated that the first week at the school was bustling as students adapted to their new schedules. Students were engaged in various activities, including receiving parking passes, ID cards, and laptops, enhancing their readiness for the academic challenges ahead. In addition to providing flexibility in course selection, the new schedule promotes collaborative learning with the nearby Daniel Morgan Technology Center, enabling students to access honors-level courses and practical experiences through internships.

Each year, Spartanburg High School continues to build its legacy, with more than 40 faculty and staff members being alumni of the institution, underscoring the school community’s commitment to excellence in education. Senior students like Callie Crocker are exciting their engagements including college-level coursework and foreign language studies such as Chinese, reflecting the school’s aim to enrich its curriculum.

As for athletics, the school’s football team, led by Coach Mark Hodge, embarks on its sixth season, coming off a solid 9-3 record from the previous year.
