Ninety veterans from the Upstate South Carolina region recently completed a trip to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to their service. The Honor Flight Upstate SC organization facilitated the journey, which concluded on September 21, 2026.
This initiative provides a crucial opportunity for veterans, including those from Spartanburg and surrounding communities, to experience the national monuments built in their honor. Many of these veterans may not otherwise have the means or opportunity to make such a trip. The program specifically targets veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, recognizing their sacrifices and ensuring they receive the gratitude they deserve.
The trip included visits to various significant sites, allowing the veterans to reflect on their service and connect with fellow service members. For Spartanburg, a city with a strong military presence anchored by Fort Jackson, the US Army’s largest basic combat training installation, and the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, programs like Honor Flight Upstate SC are particularly meaningful. These efforts underscore the community’s commitment to honoring its military personnel, both active duty and retired.
