Newberry College Football Faces Emory & Henry
Emory & Henry University will host nationally ranked Newberry College for a football game on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Fred Selfe Stadium. The day will also mark Sports Hall of Fame Induction Day and Military & First Responders Appreciation Day on campus.
The university will induct its 2026 class into the Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a ceremony at 9 a.m. inside the King Center. The inductees include Jim Brooks (Football, 1992), Danielle Moore Sullivan (Basketball, 2004), Chris Musser (Football/Baseball, 1988), Mike Keating (Baseball/Football/Track & Field, 1982), PJ Henson (Soccer, 2012), and Katy Dowe Treash (Softball/Volleyball, 2002).

No. 25 Walters State defeated Pellissippi State 3-1 in volleyball, with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22. Walters State’s record improved to 16-1 overall and 5-0 in TCCAA play. Adah Snodgrass and Hannah Hall contributed kills for Walters State in the second set.
The No. 4-ranked Milligan University men’s cross country team competed at both the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama, and the Brevard Invitational in Brevard, North Carolina. Milligan finished 17th out of 29 teams at the Southern Showcase and second out of five at Brevard. Caleb Greene was Milligan’s top finisher at the Southern Showcase, placing 72nd out of 302 finishers with a time of 25:21.6. Freshman Kevin McCurry placed 142nd with a time of 26:04.4 in his first collegiate race.
The LMU women’s cross country team finished sixth and the men’s team finished seventh at the Converse Kick-Off event on Saturday, Sept. 19. Greta Chizzali led the LMU women’s team, finishing 20th in the 6k with a time of 23:13.9. Jacie Begley finished 45th in 24:31.7 for the LMU women’s team. Braniff Mahoney led the LMU men’s team, finishing 20th in the 8k with a time of 25:26.8. Roman Borghetti-Metz rounded out the top five for the LMU men’s team, finishing in 27:41.0.
In college football, Mississippi moved into the top five of The Associated Press Top 25 poll after their win over LSU, jumping to No. 4. This marks their first top-five ranking since being No. 3 in the final poll last season. Texas was ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive week. The SEC has 10 teams ranked in this week’s Top 25 poll: No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 4 Mississippi, No. 8 Alabama, No. 10 LSU, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 19 Missouri, No. 21 Florida, No. 23 Texas A&M, and No. 24 Mississippi State.
