Spartanburg is gearing up for an exciting cultural event that you won’t want to miss! The Artists Collective Spartanburg, the only art collective in Spartanburg County, is hosting its third annual Open Doors Studio Tour this weekend. This is your chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of local artists and witness their art in its natural habitat.

The Venue and Its Vibe

Nestled at 578 W. Main St., the Artists Collective is located in a spacious 20,000-square-foot building that used to be the West Main Baptist Church. The collective has grown significantly since it was first established in 2009 under the name West Main Artists Collective. In 2017, it was rebranded to its current name, reflecting its commitment to the artistic community. Today, this vibrant space is home to over 30 studios and around 60 talented members, creating an artistic hub unlike any other in the area.

In 2023, the Collective took its commitment to community and creativity a step further by introducing the Underground Gallery. This new salon-style performance space is designed to invite conversation and contemplation, welcoming both art lovers and those who are new to the scene. The Underground Studio also merges art with non-art communities through workshops, Art Talks, and exciting performances.

This year’s tour promises to be an incredible showcase of artistic expressions, featuring a range of mediums that underline the creativity thriving in Spartanburg. Art That Speaks to the Soul

In the heart of this artistic gathering is the belief in the transformative power of art. Artists from the Collective understand how their work can affect not only those who view it but the artists themselves. Art has a unique way of creating emotional connections and fostering empathy, making it an important part of community dialogue.

The mission of the Open Doors Studio Tour is clear: to provide a special opportunity for the community to connect with local art and support the artists behind it. This event isn’t just about admiring beautiful creations; it’s about fostering community engagement and understanding the significance of art in our daily lives.

Community-Friendly Art

As you walk through the studios, you’ll find that the Artists Collective is not just a workspace; it’s a warm and supportive community hub for artists. According to the management board, the focus is on giving art a personal voice while highlighting its connection to hope. This makes the Collective a unique treasure in Spartanburg, where artists can create, learn, and share their passion with others.
