Road closures will begin on April 30 at 11 p.m. The event includes food, entertainment, and supports local initiatives. This year’s Criterium replaces the previously scheduled Spring Fling event. A full schedule of races will occur throughout the day, along with a Burger Cookoff on May 3.

Spartanburg, SC – Road closures for the upcoming Spartanburg Regional Criterium will commence on Wednesday, April 30, at 11 p.m. and will remain in effect until Saturday, May 3, at 1 a.m. The event is set to take place in downtown Spartanburg on Friday, May 2, showcasing a fast-paced, multi-lap cycling race over a half-mile course with professional cyclists in attendance.

The Criterium, dubbed the “fastest night in the Upstate,” promises to be a lively community event, featuring hundreds of tents surrounding the course. Attendees can look forward to food, beverages, and entertainment as they enjoy the unique atmosphere created by both cycling enthusiasts and local supporters. All proceeds generated from the Criterium will benefit PAL: Play. Advocate. Live. Well., an organization aimed at improving the quality of life for children and families in the region.

This year’s Criterium comes after the decision to cancel the traditional Spring Fling event, which was previously planned for the same weekend. City officials noted that ongoing construction projects created logistical issues that hindered the viability of Spring Fling, and due to this, the event may not return in any capacity in the future.

On the day of the Criterium, a full slate of races will take place with the following schedule:

  • 3:15 p.m.: Women’s CAT 4/5
  • 3:50 p.m.: Men’s CAT 4/5
  • 4:25 p.m.: Masters
  • 5:35 p.m.: Kid’s Rides
  • 6:10 p.m.: Men’s CAT 2/3
  • 7:10 p.m.: Women’s Pro
  • 8:20 p.m.: Men’s Pro

Additionally, the 10th Annual Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff will coincide with the Criterium weekend, kicking off at noon on May 3. Located at the corner of West Main Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue, the Cookoff will host 17 teams competing for the best burger in the area. Guests can enjoy live music provided by the Back 9 Band, a VIP tent, ample seating, and family-friendly activities such as face painting and balloon artistry.

Road Closures and City Alerts

The City of Spartanburg has made notifications regarding road closures available through its official Facebook page to ensure that residents and visitors are well-informed. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to plan accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during the event.

The Spartanburg Regional Criterium not only highlights the region’s cycling culture but also unites the community through various activities, making it a much-anticipated event for locals and visitors alike. The Criterium on May 2 and the Burger Cookoff on May 3 are excellent opportunities for outdoor fun, showcasing talent both on the cycling track and in culinary creativity.
