South Carolina Man Arrested and Charged with Homicide After Missing Roommate’s Remains are Found Under Fire Pit

Life-threatening suspicion arose over the victim’s disappearance: neighbors’ accounts led investigators to believe the victim was killingly concealed in the backyard of her domicile under a fire pit.
Discovery of the Body:
The coroner’s office of Horry County disclosed details of the gruesome discovery, saying, “On June 12 in the 600 block of 1st Avenue in Myrtle Beach the remains of Penni Whiteside were located, buried in the yard on the exterior of her home.”
Further inspection of the body corroborated that the death was without a doubt a homicide. The Myrtle Beach Police Department took the lead on the murder case and confirmed that Whiteside was last seen alive in the spring of 2022, at the age of 51.

In 2022, the victim was residing with the suspect, according to information provided by law enforcement. The reports brought to light by the authorities reveal that Fogle and Whiteside were not just neighbors but shared the same household.
Upon receiving surveillance reports from neighbors, the investigators were granted a search warrant for the property located on the 600 block of 1st Avenue South in Myrtle Beach on June 12, 2024.

The search resulted in the unearthing of human remains, later identified as Whiteside’s. Law enforcement expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and friends as they lamented, “This is a tragic loss of life and a senseless crime of violence.
