Young Father-to-be Murdered in Carolina Driveway
In a tragic scene that unfolded in Easley, Carolina, a young father-to-be was gunned down in his mother’s driveway. 21-year-old Corey Ryder Vickery collapsed into his mother’s arms, gasping out a heartbreaking plea, “momma, I can’t breathe” as he lay dying.
Emergency Response Insufficient to Save His Life
Following a desperate 911 call, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene. Officers encountered a woman administering life-saving measures to a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate intervention, Corey was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Public Plea for Assistance
Devastated by her son’s untimely death, Vickery’s mother, Nicole Moon, has resorted to a public plea for assistance on a GoFundMe page. She shared that her son was eagerly expecting his first child, a baby girl due in October. In her heartfelt appeal, she painted a harrowing picture of the tragic events that unfolded on Saturday evening.
“My son was about to be a new father… and now he will never get the chance to know what being a father is, all because of a senseless act of violence!” Moon wrote.
She also described the last moments of Corey’s life, in which he expressed his love for his wife and struggled for breath in his mother’s lap.
Murder Shatters Dream of Fatherhood
Moon’s lamentation painted a vivid picture of her son’s character. Corey was described as a wonderful son, brother, husband, and friend. His life was tragically cut short, leaving his dreams of fatherhood unfulfilled and a family in mourning.
After losing his father and grandfather to cancer, Corey assumed the role of family caretaker. Now his mother pleads for financial help to bear the costs of the funeral and child care for the unborn baby.
“We were not prepared for this… we have a whole family to take care of without my son here!” appealed Moon on the GoFundMe page.
While grappling with the emotional loss, the family is also forced to address the urgent financial needs. She ended her plea with a thank you note to anyone who shows kindness and provides help in these testing times.
A Call for Justice
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information regarding the unfortunate incident to contact them at 864-898-5500 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
A brutal act of violence took the life of a young man on the brink of fatherhood, causing unspeakable grief to his family. As investigations into this tragic incident continue, the family and community cling to the hope of swift justice for Corey Ryder Vickery.
