SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Spartanburg Police Department says another Flock license plate camera was cut down Monday night, the latest in a run of damaged surveillance cameras in the city and county.

Officers were sent around 8:50 p.m. to the area of Fernwood Glendale Road near Gable Court for a report of a suspicious person. There they found a man carrying a long black pole that turned out to be part of a Flock camera. The pole appeared to have been cut, the camera was missing and the solar panel was damaged.

The man ran when officers tried to detain him, and they lost sight of him. About three inches of the pole was still in the ground nearby, and the damaged camera was later found lying in the road.

The camera had been reporting as active until 8:42 p.m. Firefighters nearby said they saw the same man walking from East Main Street toward the camera around 8:41 p.m.

In late September, city police confirmed two more Flock cameras had been damaged, and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reported eight knocked down or damaged in the Boiling Springs area over one month. Flock Safety puts replacement costs from vandalism or theft at $350 to $5,000.
