SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Construction is officially under way on a $75 million apartment community at the old Beaumont Mill property, one of the main gateways into downtown Spartanburg.
Taft Family Ventures, a developer based in Greenville, N.C., held a groundbreaking on Nov. 5 where Isom Street meets North Pine Street for Address Beaumont Mill, a 275-unit project on the former textile mill grounds.
The developer plans a four- and five-story building whose design nods to the property’s mill history. Residents will get a pool courtyard, a gym and a clubhouse, and the building will have four elevators and climate-controlled hallways. Apartments are to come with smart-home features and quartz countertops. Some homes will have fenced yards or balconies.
Close to 30 of the units are set aside as workforce housing, according to principal Thomas Taft Jr.
As part of its deal with the city, Taft is also on the hook for a fresh stretch of the Daniel Morgan Trail System, tying the Beaumont neighborhood to downtown. The trail network covers 55 miles of existing and planned routes through the city core.
Leasing on the first homes is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2027, and the full community is scheduled to be finished in spring 2028.
