A steady rain that settled over downtown Spartanburg on Saturday afternoon forced the postponement of game five in the Hub City Spartanburgers’ home series against the Winston-Salem Dash, pushing the conclusion of the six-game set to a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. ET at Fifth Third Park.
Saturday’s originally scheduled 4:35 p.m. start never got off the ground. Ground crew had the tarp down and the field covered by around 3:30 p.m. as rain intensified, and the game was officially called roughly an hour and a half after the original first pitch was to have been thrown. The postponement pushed Hub City’s record to 9-9 on the season, while Winston-Salem entered the weekend riding a 12-7 mark — one of the stronger starts in the South Atlantic League.
Sunday’s makeup will consist of two seven-inning contests with approximately a 40-minute break between games. A single ticket covers admission to both halves of the doubleheader, with tickets available at hubcityspartanburgers.com/tickets. Fans who purchased tickets for Saturday’s postponed game may exchange them for a ticket of equal or lesser value to Sunday’s doubleheader or any other Spartanburgers home game during the 2026 season by calling the Fifth Third Park box office at 864-594-0701.
The series has been tightly contested through its first four games. Winston-Salem won the opener on April 21 by a 4-3 margin, then added an 8-4 decision the following night to take a 2-0 series lead. Hub City answered on April 23, erupting for a 16-2 victory to snap the skid, then kept the momentum going with a 10-7 win on Friday to even the series at two games apiece.
The Spartanburgers enter Sunday at exactly .500 at 9-9, looking to close out the homestand on a high note. The Texas Rangers’ High-A affiliate has shown the ability to generate offense in bunches — the back-to-back wins over the Dash produced 26 combined runs — and the seven-inning format of each doubleheader game puts a premium on quick starts and bullpen efficiency. Winston-Salem enters at 12-7, one of the better records in the South Atlantic League.
