Electrolux will lay off approximately 1,200 employees at its Anderson manufacturing facility by July 2026 as the company transitions from refrigeration unit production to laundry appliances under a new joint venture arrangement. The shutdown is described as temporary: Electrolux expects the plant to reopen in early 2027, with employment levels expected to return to current numbers gradually through 2027 and 2028.
The refrigeration work being discontinued in Anderson will move to an Electrolux operation in Juarez, Mexico. Electrolux’s Fabric Care operations in Juarez will close before the joint venture takes effect. Affected Anderson workers will receive severance packages and will be able to apply for new positions when the plant reopens under its new laundry-focused production mandate.
Electrolux described the shutdown as a recognition of the impact on its valued employees, stating that the company is working closely with state and local agencies to support affected workers and assist with placement in alternative Anderson-area roles where feasible. Electrolux expects employment levels to return to current numbers gradually over 2027 and 2028 as the laundry joint venture ramps up.
The Anderson facility is one of Electrolux’s major U.S. manufacturing sites and a significant employer for the Upstate region. Its workforce transitions will be closely followed by labor and economic development officials across Anderson and neighboring Spartanburg counties, where manufacturing employment remains a primary driver. The S.C. Department of Commerce and the Anderson County workforce development network are expected to provide transition assistance to affected workers.
