The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the death of retired deputy Carol Wayne Emory, 77, of Spartanburg County, who passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2026, surrounded by his family.
The sheriff’s office posted a tribute to Emory on social media Monday, noting he dedicated 30 years to a career in law enforcement, the majority of those years serving with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
A career of service across law enforcement roles
Emory was born on February 6, 1949, in Spartanburg County and was a proud graduate of Byrnes High School, Class of 1967. Throughout his career, he served in multiple roles for the sheriff’s office, including as a School Resource Officer for Spartanburg County School District 1, where colleagues and community members say he had a lasting impact on young lives.
After retiring from law enforcement, Emory continued serving the community through work with Seawright’s Funeral Home and Mill Street Florist. His obituary, posted by Seawright Funeral Home in Inman, described him as a man of strength, humility, and unwavering dedication.
Survived by family, friends, and the sheriff’s office community
Emory is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sherry Skinner Emory; his daughter Brandy Parker of Landrum; his son Clay Emory of Roebuck; and three granddaughters. His sister, Donna Jackson of Lyman, and other extended family members also survive him.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Assistance Fund (Fund Code 00624) or the Gibbs Cancer Center.
