SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Fried chicken chain Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken is now serving customers from a renovated building at 2161 E. Main St. in Spartanburg, close to the Walmart on that stretch of road.
The Ohio-based company says the restaurant keeps hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, and it began operating on Oct. 26. It is only the second Lee’s in South Carolina; the other one is in Rock Hill.
A formal grand opening is set for Thursday, Oct. 29. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m., and doors open an hour later, when the first 50 people in line get a free two-piece breast strip meal. A local radio station plans a live remote with giveaways from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The brand traces its start to 1966 in Lima, Ohio, where Lee Cummings and partner Harold Omer launched a takeout spot. Most of its locations today sit in Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri, with only a scattering across the South.
