SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg’s USC Upstate soccer programs swept a trio of Big South Conference weekly awards Monday, with two women’s players and one men’s player recognized after big outings last week.
On the women’s side, senior defender Annabelle Wunderlich was picked as Offensive Player of the Week. She buried two first-half penalty kicks in a 6-0 rout of South Carolina State, the first just 2:18 after kickoff. Freshman midfielder Jasmine Hicks took Freshman of the Week after netting her first college goal late in the same match. The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs 25-1 and sit at 11-2-4, still unbeaten at 6-0-1 in league play.
For the men, midfielder Henry Burt was named Offensive Player of the Week after he scored both goals in a 2-1 road win at UNC Asheville on Saturday. He struck in the 13th and 55th minutes, and the victory moved Upstate to 3-3 in conference play and locked up a berth in the Big South Conference Tournament.
