SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Hundreds of homes and businesses on the west side of Spartanburg County were still waiting on electricity early Saturday after a Duke Energy outage that began Friday evening near Interstate 26 and Highway 29.

The trouble first showed up at about 6:25 p.m. Friday, when more than 2,000 customers lost service. The number without power climbed to roughly 2,391 by 10 p.m., and the utility’s outage map listed three active outages in the county at that point.

Crews had trimmed the count to about 700 customers by midnight, Duke Energy said.

The company is projecting that service will be back for the remaining customers by 10 a.m. Saturday. No cause had been identified as of early Saturday.

Residents in the affected area can check restoration progress on Duke Energy’s online outage map or report a problem to the utility directly.
