The Hub City Spartanburgers are turning their May 5-10 homestand into a week-long volunteer push, naming the stretch “Sparkle Week” at Fifth Third Park and pairing each day with a different Upstate nonprofit.
According to the team, Spartanburgers players, coaches and front-office staff will spend mornings assisting community organizations before hosting those groups at the ballpark later the same day for game-night visibility and outreach.
Which nonprofits are part of Sparkle Week
The Spartanburgers said the schedule includes Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg on Tuesday, May 5; the Spartanburg Humane Society on Wednesday, May 6; the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen on Thursday, May 7; and Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve on Friday, May 8.
After each morning volunteer project, the featured nonprofit is expected to have an informational table at that night’s game, plus an in-game spotlight that includes a first pitch and a chance to join the Spartanburgers Radio Network for a half inning to discuss their work.
Canned food drive planned for May 8
The team also plans a canned food drive during the Friday, May 8 game against Wilmington, with donated items going to the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. Donations will be accepted outside the left- and right-field gates beginning at 5:45 p.m.
The Spartanburgers said the week is part of their partnership with Fifth Third Bank, the naming-rights sponsor for Fifth Third Park, and is designed to highlight organizations serving Spartanburg and the broader Upstate.
