SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A Flash Flood Warning covered Spartanburg County early Sunday after heavy overnight rain, and the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg office later said flood waters have receded and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.
An alert summary said a prolonged stretch of rainfall had already produced 2.5-4 inches across Spartanburg County, saturating soils and sparking isolated nuisance flooding before another band of torrential rain moved in from the south.
Areas of greatest concern included Lawsons Fork Creek and Meadow Creek near Inman, streams near Campobello and Lake Bowen, and low ground near Croft State Park. The heaviest rain was tracked toward Cross Anchor, Enoree, and Pauline.
Glendale Fire Department reported nuisance flooding along Country Club Rd near Church St as conditions worsened overnight. Motorists were told to obey barricades and avoid flooded roadways.
A follow-up from the weather service said nuisance flooding along Lawsons Fork Creek may linger for a few hours with the creek at Lake Forest Drive over bankfull, while a broader Flood Watch remained in effect until 2 p.m. Sunday for parts of the Upstate.
Communities listed under the warning footprint included Spartanburg, Boiling Springs SC, Woodruff, Lyman, Pacolet, Cowpens, Wellford, Inman, Mayo and Roebuck.
