SPARTANBURG, S.C. — USC Upstate hosted its own cross country meet in Spartanburg on Saturday morning, and two runners set the pace for the Spartans on the Roger Milliken Research Center course.
Senior Jordan Thornton was the top Upstate woman in the 5K at 18:44.5. Sophia Outhous, Grace Glassmeyer, Sofia Strom and freshman Alice Taylor filled out the scoring five, and only 49.8 seconds split the first and fifth Spartan runners.
On the men’s side, freshman Aiden Abrahams covered the 8K in 25:35.7, the best time by an Upstate man this season. Yariel Ferretti, Eric Perry, Nick Brooks and Jason Heusinger followed, with 33.4 seconds between the top five.
The invite was a tune-up for the postseason. The Big South Cross Country Championship comes back to Spartanburg on Friday, October 30, at Milliken Research Park, with the women set for a 9 a.m. start and the men at 9:45 a.m.
