SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Big South Conference crowns its cross country champions in Spartanburg on Friday morning, Oct. 30, with USC Upstate playing host on the course its runners know best at the Milliken Research Center.
Every one of the league’s nine schools has teams in the field. Women run 5 kilometers starting at 9:00 a.m., and men cover 8 kilometers beginning at 9:45 a.m. The 14 quickest finishers in each race take home All-Conference honors.
The Spartans got a preview of the layout on Oct. 17 at the Upstate Invite. Aiden Abrahams ran the men’s 8K there in 25:35.7, the fastest time any Upstate man has posted this season, and Jordan Thornton paced the women’s 5K in 18:44.5. Only 33.4 seconds split the top five Upstate men.
Visiting Presbyterian College brings Garrison Fisher, who has set the school records at 6K and 8K this fall and earned the league’s weekly top-runner honor on Oct. 15. Bus Baker is coaching the Blue Hose through his first season in charge.
For several Upstate seniors, Friday is the final race on their home course. An awards ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m.
