SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Voters in Spartanburg School District 2 will settle two school bond questions on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and a parent and student group spent Saturday making its pitch for both.
The first question would let the district borrow up to $156.6 million for a K-8 school in the Boiling Springs area, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade campus, and add classrooms at Cooley Springs-Fingerville and Mayo elementary schools. The district says that question carries no tax increase.
The second asks for up to $30 million to improve the stadiums at the district’s two high schools, athletic work at every middle school and new playground equipment at the elementary schools. It only takes effect if the first question also passes. The district puts its cost at about $5 a month on a $300,000 home. Together the two would cap borrowing at $186.6 million.
Supporters campaigning under the banner Vote Yes for D2 held a public meeting Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31, at Cooley Springs-Fingerville Elementary. Organizers said the money is needed to keep class sizes from ballooning as hundreds of new students arrive each year and to bring aging stadiums up to modern safety standards.
Polling places open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day, and voters must go to their assigned precinct.
