SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Voters heading to the polls in Spartanburg on Tuesday should find mostly sunny skies and a high near 75, well above what is typical for early November.
The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg expects temperatures to run at least 5-10 degrees above normal through Wednesday as a steady southerly flow pumps warm, muggy air into the Upstate. Clouds build Tuesday night, when the low should only fall to around 56.
Wednesday turns unsettled. The forecast for the city gives a 40% chance of rain, mostly from late morning into the afternoon, though daytime totals in the city should stay under a tenth of an inch. Odds jump to 80% Wednesday night, when showers and a few thunderstorms are likely. Forecasters say the heaviest totals, possibly half an inch to an inch, will stay over the mountains and western counties as a weakening front arrives, with barely any rain east of I-77.
A strong storm or two cannot be ruled out, but an organized severe threat looks unlikely. Scattered showers and storms stay in the picture Thursday, and a cold front could bring another round late Friday before drier air returns over the weekend.
