SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg and the rest of the Upstate are in for near-record heat the rest of the week before a cold front brings the coolest air of the season this weekend.
Wednesday will be sunny and warm, with highs in the mid 80s. Upstate highs Wednesday and Thursday are expected to reach 86 to 88 degrees, which would tie or beat the current record both days. Friday should reach 86, which would break the record of 85. Overnight lows stay mild in the low 60s.
The cold front arrives late Friday without significant rain, though a few showers are possible in the mountains. Winds pick up Friday afternoon with gusts of 25 to 30 mph, and stay breezy Saturday morning.
Saturday highs drop into the mid 60s across the Upstate, about 20 degrees cooler than Friday. Lows fall to the low 40s, warm enough to avoid frost here. Sunday looks crisp and sunny with highs in the low 60s.
