SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Spartanburg police are asking for the public help after a security camera along the Rail Trail was intentionally damaged over the weekend.

Other cameras in the area captured a person riding a motorized bike who may have information about the vandalism, the Spartanburg Police Department said. A photo released by police shows a time stamp of 6:31 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.

Police said the department worked with local trail supporters to invest in surveillance cameras to help improve safety for everyone who uses the local trail system.

Our Rail Trail is a valuable community resource, and these cameras are in place to help protect the safety of everyone who uses it, police said in a social media post. Vandalism of this equipment affects our entire community.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the photo or has information about the incident is asked to contact the Spartanburg Police Department. Investigators have not said whether the rider is considered a suspect or a potential witness.
