SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A Rainbow Lake Middle School student was hit by a car while waiting for the school bus Tuesday morning in Spartanburg County, according to Spartanburg County School District 2.
The student was hit about 7:40 a.m. near Upper Valley Falls Road and Gobblers Knob Road. The student was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the student was horseplaying with another student while waiting for the bus and went into the road abruptly. No charges will be filed.
District officials said the driver who hit the student remained at the scene and cooperated with first responders until emergency crews arrived. The student’s bus arrived shortly after the crash, and the bus driver helped make sure help was called.
The incident remains under investigation.
